about
Recorded at Threshold Sound with Ron Roy in 1994 for Stomp On Wood, a tribute to Canadian legend Stompin' Tom Connors. Tom was known for his affable, folksy character, his tenacious touring and his witty slices of quirky Canadiana. When I was approached to contribute a track to this album, I scoured his catalogue looking for something that spoke more to his power as a songwriter. This is the tale of a monstrous family in Lucan, Ontario who terrorized their neighbours. The song is a testimony to Tom's gift as a storyteller. This is a song that could have easily sprung from the pen of Johnny Cash or Nick Cave. Ron and I chose to completely rework the piece musically, keeping only Tom's stark text. RIP Stompin' Tom.
